Course Description
This one day course will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about the Woodland Condition Assessment (WCA); how it is used in the statutory biodiversity metric and to carry out a Woodland Condition Assessment (WCA) to national standards. It is a course that is applicable to:
- Public and private sector professionals (e.g. forestry agents, estate managers, ecologists, land advisors).
- Those involved in woodland management planning, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), or Countryside Stewardship delivery.
- Participants with a working knowledge of UK woodland systems.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will use a WCA mobile app to gather and score field data.
- Identify key tree and flora species relevant to woodland condition, with an emphasis on broadleaf woodlands and conifer elements.
- Understand how WCA outputs relate to:
- - BNG habitat baselining and uplift planning.
- - CS WD2 grant reporting and intervention planning.
- Begin applying WCA outcomes to real-world woodland management decisions.
Remote sensing as a cost effective method for
silvicultural applications.
