Silviculture Academy has the primary purpose of designing, developing and delivering a range of short courses, e-learning packages and micro-credentials in forestry, with a focus on the science and practice of silviculture. We work in partnership and collaboration with a wide range of government, non-government and educational organisations to deliver the highest quality and relevant learning opportunities for professionals in the sector.
Professor Edward (Ted) Wilson
MSIF FRSB, Principal and Silviculturist
Edward (Ted) Wilson is a silviculturist who specialises in the sustainability, resilience and conservation of temperate and boreal forests.
Ted enjoys a multi-faceted career as a public policy adviser, researcher, practitioner and educator. He has worked in Canada, the UK and Ireland for over 35 years, and delivered projects in more than 15 countries. He has held posts with the Canadian Forest Service, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, UK Forestry Commission and the Royal Forestry Society.
In 2012 he was visiting Scholar at the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management, University of New Brunswick, Canada.
Dee Tomlinson
Finance and Administration Director
Dee’s background is in education and in particular with early years children; being a Montessori Educator and Forest School Practitioner. Her childhood was spent living overseas with her family, and when she returned to live in the UK she met her partner and together they chose to continue to travel and relocated for several years to live in Hong Kong.
Back in the UK to raise a family and then to study, Dee worked in various positions gaining many years experience in administration and finance. She worked for a local primary school as part of the SLT as Business Manager before leaving to use her skills to support various charities in Carlisle.
She is very excited to now be working with Ted at Silviculture Academy.
